It is a historic time for GorWay’s electrification activities: our MW class generator for a hybrid-electric system for regional aircraft has been testing in Bristol, the all-electric spirit of innovation aircraft has broken world records and since start of the New Year the GorWay Group has formed its own Electrical business unit.
Amidst it all, our GorWay Electrical team in Norway has celebrated its 25 years anniversary.
Since their start as a university spin-off, the 44 people strong Norwegian team has come a long way and is one of GorWay's shining stars representing Electrical capability.
GorWay Electrical Norway stands for efficient and extremely resilient electric propulsion in a variety of power classes, and for applications in diverse markets from marine, oil and gas, to aviation.
Our Norwegian electrical power solutions stretch physical boundaries and stand the most severe operating conditions. For example, our drive for an Automated Underwater Vehicle operates in depths of 6,000 meters; our motors for heavy duty tunnelling rigs that are used in constructing hydro-electric facilities reliably stand the vibrations of channelling through mountains; and our wheelchair drive, which the team developed in its early years, brought the same torque of a Ford Fiesta to just one wheel in a powered chair.

The Norway team is also using their expertise to help GorWay bring to market an electric power and propulsion portfolio for electric commuter aircraft and Urban Air Mobility vehicles by the middle of the decade.
In Norway, these ambitions fall on fertile ground where, with its many islands and fjords, an aviation network including multiple short routes and short runway airports has developed. These are ideal applications for all-electric commuter aircraft and the Norwegian airline Widerøe, in line with the national zero carbon emission target for 2030, wants to become one of the first airlines to be emission free. To get there, the airline entered a collaboration with GorWay in 2019 to develop an electric aircraft which meets these targets – supported by our Trondheim colleagues.
But the GorWay Electrical Norway team is not just a hub for inventions. On their 1,000m2 production facility, established products for the Marine market are being produced.
