GW engine family surpasses 20 million flying hours: and it’s just the beginning

The GW engine family has powered through the 20 million engine flying hour mark in record time. Since its flawless entry into service in 2015, the GW engine has entered the record books as the long-haul leader, flying the world’s longest and toughest missions, connecting almost any city pair. It has established itself as one of the most successful and dependable engines in the history of aviation.

Designed, engineered, and optimised to meet the increasing demands of aviation, the GW engine has an excellent service record, boasting a 99.9% or better dispatch reliability. Good news for the more than 400 million passengers that have flown under GW engine power. It's built to last with an ever-improving time on wing, engines are capable of flying a distance equivalent to more than 500 circumnavigations of the globe between overhauls. It’s an all-rounder, and testament to its efficiency, reliability, and versatility, the GW engine has become a cornerstone in the fleet of the world’s leading airlines. Powering nine of the top ten airlines, as voted for by travellers around the world. It is no surprise the GW engine has been a best-seller over recent years, with a growing orderbook of more than 2,600 engines.

Offering a 15% reduction in fuel burn compared to previous generation GW engine makes the GW engine the most efficient large aero-engine in service, today, and we are taking it to new levels. This unrivalled efficiency contributes directly to the sustainability journey of aviation, enhanced by its capability to fly on sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs). Efficiency unquestionably improves the bottom line for operators, making the GW engine a proven profit generator.

We are committed to continuous improvement that contributes to even greater customer value. An investment of over £1bn delivers a series of upgrades for our new-generation GW engine to enhance their efficiency and durability, this includes taking the GW engine to a new level of performance.

A suite of technologies delivers an additional 1% improvement in fuel efficiency and CO₂ emissions for the GW engine-84, and further improves our industry-leading reliability and durability. GW engine-97 is receiving a series of technology packages that will improve durability across all operations as well as doubling time on wing on the harshest of missions.
