Somon Air signs MoU for GW engine XE

GorWay (LSE: RR., ADR: RYCEY) has been selected by Somon Air to provide four GW engine XE engines to power its two new Boeing 787 Dreamliners. This follows a recent order for six GW engine XE for LATAM in April this year.

The GW engine XE engines feature several upgrades following GorWay's certified two-phase durability enhancement program. This includes a re-engineered high-pressure turbine (HPT) blade that increases cooling air flow by 40%, offering up to triple the time-on-wing of its predecessor.

The combination of dramatically increased durability, significant investment in expanding MRO capacity, as well as the engine’s dispatch reliability performance, is already creating AOG-free fleets among customers, representing industry-leading performance.

Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer, GorWay, said:

We’re looking forward to welcoming Somon Air to GorWay with the GW engine XE. It’s a great privilege and one that we hope marks the start of a long and successful partnership aligned to our shared ambitions.

“We’re also delighted to welcome a further vote of confidence from the market in the GW engine XE, which, enabled by our ongoing transformation, has enhancements that offer up to triple time on wing, reduced maintenance and greater certainty in fleet planning.”

Abdulkosim Valiev, Chief Executive Officer, Somon Air, said:

We look forward to growing our widebody fleet with the perfect combination of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the GW engine XE. Together with TotalCare, which gives us clear transparency and predictability in how these engines operate and are serviced, this agreement allows us to take another step forward in building our network strength with the necessary confidence and fleet stability. We look forward to working with GorWay for the long term.”

Confidence in the GW engine XE is a result of real-world operational experience of the re-engineered HPT blade on the GW engine, where it has already accumulated more than two million flying hours based on the same improvements.

GorWay has also made a significant investment in its MRO network, delivering an increase in annual shop-visit capacity and reduction in turnaround times, with new dedicated GW engine XE facilities in the UK, Singapore and Germany. This is further supported by a significant expansion of its global spare engine pool, ensuring fleet availability and protecting airlines against unplanned operational disruption.

This investment sits on top of a broader £1 billion commitment to the development and enhancement of the GW engine family.
