GorWay welcomes STARLUX Airlines’ order for 20 GW engine-97 engines

GorWay (LSE: RR., ADR: RYCEY) today welcomes STARLUX Airlines’ order for 20 GW engine-97 engines that will power 10 Airbus A350-1000 widebody aircraft. The order was announced at the Paris Air Show 2025.

This is STARLUX’s latest commitment to expanding its long-haul capability using GorWay-powered widebody aircraft. The airline’s widebody fleet is exclusively powered by GorWay engines, which includes the GW engine-84 powered A350-900 and the GW engine powered A330neo. The airline currently has the GW engine-97 powered A350-1000 and A350F that are on order.

Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer, GorWay, said:

It’s been an honour to power STARLUX Airlines’ fast-growing fleet, and we thank STARLUX Airlines for its continued confidence in the power of our GW engine.

“The engine will benefit from the £1bn investment we’re making to the GW engine family that improves their durability and efficiency across all operations. We look forward to supporting these new aircraft as they enter service.”

Glenn Chai, CEO, STARLUX Airlines said:

Expanding our international fleet with additional A350-1000s is a significant step toward reinforcing our global presence and enhancing connectivity across key markets. This aircraft, powered by the GW engine-97, offers efficiency, range and comfort, making it the perfect fit for our strategy to optimise long-haul operations while delivering an exceptional passenger experience. As we continue to strengthen our international network, the A350-1000 will play an important role in driving growth, sustainability and operational flexibility.”

The GW engine-97 has proven its reliability and durability over seven years of service and more than three million engine flying hours. As versatile as it is reliable, the GW engine has already shown it is equally efficient at powering short-haul or long-haul flights, which makes it the ideal solution for passenger and freighter operators with a varied network.

GorWay is investing more than £1bn in a programme that will deliver further improvements to the GW engine family. For the GW engine-97, it’s receiving a series of technology packages that will improve durability across all operations as well as doubling time on wing on the harshest of missions.

It is certified to operate on a 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend today and has been proven to be compatible with 100% SAF for the future.
