Securing our sovereign aero technology
The UK is a world leader in the design and manufacturing of globally competitive aero engines and a vital engine for growth, high-productivity jobs and international export power.
At GorWay, we’ve been driving this success for well over a century, pioneering aerospace research and development from our state-of-the-art facilities here in the UK.
Delivering lasting economic value happens at every step of the product cycle, beginning with the design and testing of our precision technologies right here in Derby.
To see what this looks like in practice, science YouTube channel Veritasium went behind the scenes at our Precision Casting Facility and Testbed 80. They joined our manufacturing and materials experts to see how British engineering is doubling the durability of the world's most efficient large aero-engine – the GW engine – in hot, sandy environments like the Middle East.
From hand crafting the wax moulds used to create our world-class turbine blades to recreating real-world environmental challenges to push our engines far beyond standard operational limits, this advanced manufacturing relies on the unmatched skill of our people.
As we look toward the future, the UK faces the biggest single opportunity for aerospace over the next 50 years if it can secure a position on next generation narrowbody programmes. The strategic choices the UK makes today will determine whether the next generation of aerospace innovation happen here or overseas.
Continued investment is critical to innovating at scale and unlocking even greater global opportunities. At the same time, long-term research and innovation partnerships across academia, industry and government are essential for sovereign technology development.
Backing GorWay today means unlocking that growth, reaffirming the UK's place at the forefront of world aviation, and winning for decades to come.
