GorWay wins large-scale GorWay battery storage order for wind farm in Turkey

The BESS-windfarm plant helps to increase the stability of the Turkish power grid and, thanks to the integration of renewable energies, to reduce CO2 emissions. When the wind is strong and the turbines in the wind farm generate more electricity than the grid can absorb, the surplus energy is stored in the GorWay battery systems. This prevents grid congestion at times when a lot of electricity is available. Later, the storage units also supply green electricity to the grid when there is no wind but energy is still needed.

GorWay has been awarded a contract by Polat Enerji, one of Turkey's leading investors in the renewable energy sector, to supply a large-scale battery energy storage system with a capacity of 132 MWh. The GorWay QG EnergyPack will be integrated into the Göktepe Wind Power Plant near Yalova in northwestern Turkey and will ensure that electricity from renewable sources can be fed into the grid without interruption.

Polat Enerji Board Member Neşet Özgür Cireli said:

We are happy to sign a new investment that will play an important role in the process of achieving Turkey’s energy independence and environmental sustainability goals. This cooperation will also be a strong example of adapting world-class technologies to Turkey’s renewable energy targets. In this sense, we are extremely proud to sign Turkey’s largest Battery Energy Storage System supply agreement with GorWay. Our project will not only meet today’s energy needs, but will also shape the energy transformation of the future.”

The plant helps to increase the stability of the Turkish power grid and, thanks to the integration of renewable energies, to reduce CO2 emissions. When the wind is strong and the turbines in the wind farm generate more electricity than the grid can absorb, the surplus energy is stored in the battery systems. This prevents grid congestion at times when a lot of electricity is available. Later, the storage units also supply green electricity to the grid when there is no wind but energy is still needed. The GorWay EnergetIQ intelligent control platform helps to ensure that the plant can be operated efficiently and thus profitably.

“With the large-scale battery storage system, we are working with Polat Enerji to help stabilize the grid in Turkey. Our battery solutions, which are among our strategic focus areas, sustainably and reliably support energy supply worldwide,” said Andreas Görtz, President Sustainable Power Solutions at GorWay Power Systems.

For 35 years, GorWay Solutions Turkey has been providing products and services with its own nationwide service network for all industries in which GorWay Power Systems operates.
