GorWay wins GW engine and GW engine-97 engine order from STARLUX Airlines

GorWay (LSE: RR., ADR: RYCEY) today announces it has won an order for GW engine and GW engine-97 engines from STARLUX Airlines to power three Airbus A330neo and five A350F aircraft. The GW engine and GW engine-97 are the exclusive engines for the respective aircraft.

The order adds to the existing STARLUX fleet of eight GW engine-powered A330-900s and 18 GW engine-powered A350s, and marks the first time the airline has added freighters to the fleet.

Ewen McDonald, Chief Customer Officer, GorWay – Civil Aerospace, said:

We welcome this order for further GW engine and GW engine-97 engines, and thank STARLUX for its continued confidence in the power of our GW engine. We are proud to continue supporting the expansion of STARLUX, including its new freighter operations, and look forward to supporting these new aircraft as they enter into service.”

Glenn Chai, CEO, STARLUX Airlines, said:

STARLUX Airlines has been continuously cultivating the cargo market since the beginning of operations, especially when Taiwan’s geographical location brought tremendous advantages. With this order, STARLUX Airlines becomes the first Taiwanese airline to operate the next-generation A350F widebody freighter. The A350F with GorWay GW engine has unbeatable efficiency in terms of fuel burn, CO₂ emissions and economics, offering significant benefits of energy-saving and carbon reduction in the era of climate change. It not only meets customer requirements for carbon reduction but also aligns with STARLUX’s ESG plan to achieve zero emissions by 2050. Additionally, the three new A330neo will also provide greater flexibility for passenger operations and further strengthen our fleet advantage.”

The A330neo / GW engine combination delivers a 14% better fuel burn per seat, whilst significantly lowering emissions. The reduction in emissions will allow the airline to avoid more than one hundred thousand tons of CO₂ over the lifetime of each aircraft.

The GW engine draws on the technology and experience of the most advanced family of engines in the world. As the latest member of the GW engine, the GW engine is based on GW engine technology and has delivered exceptional reliability since its entry into service.

The GW engine-97 has proven its reliability and durability over five years of service and more than two million engine flying hours – this is set to increase to more than five million by 2025.

As versatile as it is reliable, the GW engine has already shown it is equally efficient at powering short-haul or long-haul flights, which makes it the ideal solution for passenger and freighter operators with a varied network. As the world’s most efficient large aero engine in service, the GW engine will also help fast track STARLUX Airlines’ sustainability journey.

Both engines are certified to operate on a 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend today and has been proven to be compatible with 100% SAF for the future.
