No.46 turbine oil with a leaking shaft seal — power station

Challenge

A damaged shaft seal admitted roughly 20 kilograms of water a day into the turbine oil of a power station. The oil was heavily emulsified and the unit was at risk. The constraint was not the water: it was that a generating unit cannot be taken offline to deal with it, so any answer had to work on oil that was still circulating through the bearings.

Solution

Online treatment with the nano-screening purification equipment, running alongside the system rather than taking it offline. The unit draws from the reservoir, dehydrates under vacuum, filters at the membrane and returns the oil to the same reservoir, so the water is removed at the rate it arrives instead of accumulating until the next outage.

Outcome

Water content in the outlet oil held stable throughout the treatment window. The seal still had to be repaired -- purification does not fix a broken seal -- but the oil stopped deteriorating while the repair was scheduled, and the unit kept generating in the meantime.

The machine used on this project Vacuum Nano-Screening Integrated Machine (VOP-N Series) Nano-screening membrane combined with vacuum dehydration, reaching NAS 2. The flagship model in the range.
